What is your 'type'?

Well well, these monday evenings are coming around very quickly which means it's time to let you all know about my fascinating dating life. It isn't really that fascinating at all to be honest and quite frankly i am bored of it!

I began this week speaking to a 'nice' guy via text- yes we progressed to swapping numbers which i felt extremely brave for doing. So anyway, this nice guy texts...and he texts...and for god sake he doesn't stop texting me verging on the point of harassment.
It was endearing at first, thinking 'aww he's pretty nice, in a good job, oh look another message,' before i'd even replied to the last one. Maybe it's the old cliche of preferring the chase which i actually hate when it comes to a guy i would really like to just catch me, but in this instance i found it a bit desperate seeings as we are still strangers really.
So this had to end and feeling a little mean and definitely guilty- I haven't replied to any of said messages, deleted his number and avoided all conversation, so maybe he has taken the hint...?

The rest of my week was pretty boring in all honesty, i was still receiving messages from men half my size and double my age so i have come to the conclusion tonight that this website is seemingly full of all those little short men that have been rejected by woman who like their men tall. Said tall men being extremely hard to find.

I actually never thought i had a 'type' of man, didn't think i was particularly fussy until this website came along and made me confirm everything i want in a boyfriend. So i tried being a little more open minded, thinking that maybe a 6'2, dark featured, rugby enthusiast might be limiting my options somewhat. However i really have not had any luck in finding my mr right on this website. If anything it has made me more determined to catch a strangers eye on the street and hopefully strike up a conversation that way as opposed to searching endlessly through the pages of desperately intense men looking for 'the one'.

Maybe i am taking this whole thing a little lightly compared to some of the people on there which may be why i am having zero luck, but seriously, there are only so many profiles i can look through without getting bored of the same old thing.

Don't get me wrong i have spoken to a few other nice guys who have asked if i would want to go for a drink- but this is my other dilemma. I am so busy at the minute i find myself having to book them in advance over the next few weeks, so it's a little easier to say, 'I'll let you know when i'm free?' This probably sounds like a bit of a cop-out, how can you be tooooo busy for a date?! But there we have the bottom line that i'm not all that bothered if we go on a date or not- making me think they are not that man for me. When i 'find' him or he 'finds' me (I would rather meet him in all honesty as i've said before) and i actually think he could quite possibly be god's gift to women all over the world then yes, i will make time to go on a date but right now- these men are boring me to the point where i could quite happily stay single just a little while longer!

So there we have it- another week of this online dating, hoping i can deal with another and praying it won't be as frustrating or depressing as this one has been :-)

My man is out there, and i quote (from wedding crashers) 'I will find youuu...' but in all seriousness and a less creepy note- i am still hoping :-)

Second week- and going strong?

Well i am now well on the way with this online dating malarky- it is the beginning of a new week and on reflection since i began this 'experience' this has been a total change to my usual monday to friday!

For starters my phone battery now lasts me less than the whole day, i usually end up charging it again in the evening due to the handy little dating app you can get. This isn't too bad as it acts like an IM and you get the messages instantly. Only gets a little irritating when your phone goes off ALL THE TIME. This may sound like i am 'bigging myself up' but honestly- if you could see some of the men, some of the messages and some of the 'suggestions' i have been forwarded then you would realise this is nothing to be proud of! So that's been a bit of a job, constantly having to charge my phone. It's almost as bad as my obsession to constantly check my inbox for messages. It's made me feel like a teenager again on MSN waiting for a new chat!

So anyway- these messages. Oh my days. There are some that are genuinely adorable and would make your heart melt- if only you were attracted to the face that is attached to the message, and weren't put off by the face of a criminal.
This makes me feel actually awful for not replying but i just can't be bothered to waste my time and theirs as we all know what we've signed up for. It's on the profile! If you don't tick all the boxes from the checklist what is the point? It's like, i have had messages from men that are 5'4- seriously?! I am 5'2 so what on earth would we look like together. I have also had messages from men that are 52, divorced with 5 children- WHY are these men messaging 21 year olds?!
These are the small little details you have to consider on these profiles and you quickly realise how high your standards actually are- or if you have no standards at all! This has once again made me think about these websites and really- it isn't about getting to know the personality at first, everyone is judged by their pictures so it is no different to everyday life. You have to be physically attracted to the other person don't you?! Either that or i'm extremely shallow and a really bad person. :-(
More types of men i have had messages from include, the usual perverts expected on these websites twice my dad's age asking for a date, the younger 'boys' after an older woman- I'm nearly 22 so how on earth do i constitute as an older woman for god's sake?! And just now as i am writing this i have received a message stating the following,
'hey am stripper got 10 an half inches inbox me for proof''- It's frightening.

Guys that put 'hehe' in messages freak me out and i definitely won't reply to being called 'munchkin'- when was this ever okay to call a stranger?!  I despise men messaging twice if not three times when you don't reply- Please take the hint that as i haven't messaged back, you are probably not the man of my dreams.

The worst possible action on this website is being able to see people who have viewed your profile- this also means they can see that YOU have viewed THEM and you instantly become a target for messages. Not so bad if you fancy the look of the european dreamy poet, but definitely the scariest thing on the planet when you accidentally view a giant balding slob who thinks he's onto a winner, wanting you to get your kit off. Not good.
I was actually surprised at the amount of women- yes women, messaging me telling me i could be a model! Very flattering but also very very seedy -And an absolute lie. Me modelling?! What a joke, but i guess once again it is this type of flattery that keeps you hooked on these websites. Everyone loves a compliment!

It's also extremely weird seeing people you recognise or know on the website! You get the awkward feeling of, 'ohmygod what if they tell everyone i am on a dating site?!' But then you also have to remember that they are too ;) so is it actually full of weirdos or people genuinely hoping to find a little bit of romance?!

I'm not sure how long i will be blogging this for, hopefully a little longer than 2 weeks if i can put up with it- not too sure how far to go with it either- should i meet up with these men? Go on dates?! We shall see :-) Maybe i will find the man i'll end up marrying and end up falling in love, this is, after all, the aim of the game. I'm pretty open minded that i could fall in love anywhere, anytime with anyone so maybe it could happen on this website- who knows!

Day One- First week.

So I have decided to sign up to a dating website. After an entire year of meeting unreliable and typical men and still being single, this seemed like a good thing to do at the time! It started as a bit of a laugh just to see what all the fuss is about and what I seem to be missing out on! I have now thought to blog my 'experience' so to speak keeping everyone and anyone who cares to read this up to date on my love life. Exciting right?!

So- the sign up process is pretty simple (for privacy reasons Iwon't be telling which site Iam on but you may be able to work it out anyway) there are the usual questions, 'What are you hoping to find?' followed by the typical tick boxes for whether children are on your cards or not, if you smoke and take drugs etc- standard.
Following this you add photos of yourself, smiley ones, posey ones, any pics that can show off the best you have which started the feeling that this is some serious dating stuff! Long story short, once you have filled in the required blanks you take a 'Personality Test' which matches your end result with like minded men (or women) that you could potentially date.

So here is where the fun begins- the minute my photos were up my inbox was swarmed with messages. Some were extremely flattering, most were awkwardly boring and then there were some that were repulsive. You can't help but laugh at some of the efforts of these men. One of my favourites from today was 'Topic is Penguin- Discuss' I mean, what on earth?! I understand people try a unique 'Ice-Breaker' but seriously? Penguins?! Admittedly I haven't forgotten this message as it literally made me laugh outloud in the street on my way home from work but at the same time it is people like this that make you realise why these websites exist.I think they are a wonderful idea for those too shy to speak to people in real life, however after the millionth message I have received today i'm feeling a little nostalgic for the days where men would have some balls and approach you in person asking to take you out.

So- these are my first findings after signing up to this. I have to say I have become a bit obsessed at checking my inbox pretty often for messages and you can't help but smile when you see a pretty hot looking guy actually asking how you are so who knows what could happen?! I am definitely messaging a few of these fitties back because what the hell- what do i have to lose?!
